Brigadeiro

20140625-233900-85140319.jpg In the spirit of world cup 2014 that takes place in Brazil, i am making a little Brazilian treats called brigadeiro. A little disclaimer, i am NOT brazilian. This so called ‘brazilian pride’ are soooooo good! Good job there Brazil! From the little research i made in the internet, brigadeiro is usually chocolate flavored, but brazilian made brigadeiro with coconuts, almonds and cashews too. Maybe there’s more but that’s how far my research goes. Brigadeiro is a sweet, caramely (it’s not a word but that is the best word i could describe it for) textured, decedent little (usually chocolate) balls. In this post, i made 2 flavor of brigadeiro. The classic chocolate, and almond brigadeiro. But i have to confess…. I made the almond brigadeiro first and i haven’t know what to aim for and i didn’t cook it long enough that when i shape it, it won’t hold it’s shape for too long. Lesson learned, i made the chocolate brigadeiro and it’s a SUCCESS! Woohooo!

So let’s get cooking!

Even though i failed in making the almond brigadeiro, it still taste good and i’m still gonna give the recipe and pray that you will succeed in the first try, unlike me.
Almond brigadeiro ingredients are:

The ingredients are so little right? So does the steps! Easy peasy.

20140626-000025-25982.jpgjust dump everything in a saucepan and bring it to the heat.

20140626-000110-70387.jpgcook until the mixture kind of come off from the pan leaving a little trail. That’s when the brigadeiro is done. My mistake is, taking it out before it reaches to that stage.

20140626-000250-170188.jpglet it cool in the fridge for about 30 minutes.

Next is the chocolate Brigadeiro.
Chocolate brigadeiro ingredients are:

20140626-000630-390555.jpgjust like the almond brigadeiro, just dump everything into the saucepan and put it on the heat.

20140626-000720-440721.jpguntil it slightly comes off of the pan

20140626-000900-540671.jpgand let it cool.

For the fun part! Shaping the little brigadeiro balls. I couldn’t get the picture when i’m shaping the brigadeiro because my hands are busy and messy so i couldn’t really touch my camera.
You could use any thing to cover the brigadeiro, you could even leave it plain. But i’m using chocolate shavings (lots of brigadeiro i saw uses chocolate sprinkles, you could use that too but i don’t have any chocolate sprinkles at the moment), cocoa powder and ground almonds.

20140626-001231-751195.jpgpersonally, i like the one covered with the cocoa powder the best, because i think the bitterness of the cocoa powder kind of balance the sweetness of the brigadeiro.
Smear a little butter on your hands, scoop about 1 tablespoon of the brigadeiro mixture, shape it into balls and roll them into the chocolate or any topping of your choice.
And the brigadeiro is done!
